This is a local info portal in Russian language. http://www.gde.kg

There are advertisement banners for upcoming events… but mainly focused on the nightclub scene. The trouble is finding out accurate & timely information for cultural & tourism events…

We like the cheeseburger/bacon-cheeseburger and Hawaiian pizza at Metro… That’s what we had for dinner tonight. Yummy!

Go earlier and during the off-peak hours as it can get smoky and crowded. It also has a billiard table in the main hall as well as multiple TV screens showing various channels (sports, movie, etc).

Enjoy the newly renovated summer terrace at Cyclone. Great food & great place for people-watching. 🙂

One good thing that has happened in the past year in Bishkek is the installation of Free WiFi in many eating establishments. Check with the staff to see if WiFi is available in their premises for clients to use.

Places that I know have WiFi include Coffee (all 3 branches), Foyer, Obama, Cyclone, Pirogoff-Vodkin, Vostok Zapad, Tubeteika, Movie City Bar, Buddha Bar, Bellagio, Vanilla Sky, Coffee 135, Vefa Centre, Domino Rio, Arzu, Aroma cafe (all 4 locations), etc.

One thing is for certain, more cafes & restaurants will offer Free WiFi as part of their service to their customers!

Raritet is the largest bookshop in Bishkek, the main branch is located on the west side of the Erkindik statue on Ala Too Square. There is a room inside the bookshop that is used as the Museum of Applied Art. A nice place in Bishkek to drop by & take a look at the inside of a yurt.

Travelled to Lake Kara Suu end-May for the first time. Beautiful place & very rarely visited by tourists. There are no facilities and NO tourist services (horse, guides, yurts, etc), so camping & DIY is absolutely necessary. The good thing is that the Kara Suu is vehicular-accessible. 🙂

The trek from the north shore of the lake until the southern end is ~10km on the mountain side cattle trail. The smaller lake to the southeast is another ~5km.

Saw this poster at Dom Kultura about this dance competition. Will take place on 22 May 5pm at the Russian Drama Theatre. Tickets on sale at the Theatre itself.

Looks interesting… but I’m away for a shoot near Toktogul Reservoir from 20-24 May & will have to miss this.

The Russian Drama Theatre is located at Tynystanova & Pushkina. It’s next to the Four Seasons Restaurant & a short walk north of FatBoy’s along Tynystanova.
